The church year is approaching its end and the Christmas markets are slowly getting into their starting position. But this year everything is different.

Due to the Corona pandemic, the Christmas markets in the region are cancelled, as is the Advent market of the St. Francis Sisters in the Motherhouse Garden on the Holy Mountain. "This decision was particularly difficult because the need was exacerbated by the Corona pandemic, especially in Peru and India. We have been committed there for months to help the people. We support them with food parcels, health care costs, the provision of laptops and so on," explained St. Francis Sister Katharina.

In the short term, the opportunity arose to offer some of the bazaar goods in Bad Staffelstein. "In the new pop-up store behind the municipal hall, we were able to offer some of the goods, which had already been produced, to the population. Thus, the St. Francis Sisters as well as the community of supporters of the St. Francis Sisters were looking forward to receiving necessary support for the Corona projects after all", added Sister Katharina. Preserves from the monastery garden, knitwear, handicrafts and much more were offered. The proceeds will go to the Corona projects of the St. Francis sisters.

"We are in close contact with the sisters in Peru and India. How dramatic the situation is there is hardly reported in our media. We can only guess what it means not to leave the house for nine months or to suffer hunger because there is no work," the St. Francis Sisters say.

For all those who could not come on Saturday, there is still the possibility to buy home-made food in the open shop of the Diözesanmuseum in Bamberg from Monday to Friday from 11 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm. Biscuits fresh from the convent kitchen of the diocesan house can be ordered there under the telephone number 09571-926186. If you are an entrepreneur looking for a project you would like to support for Christmas this year, the St. Francis Sisters will be happy to advise you and provide you with information material.
