The German Scout Association St. Georg is one of the scout groups responsible for distributing the Light of Peace. For many years, the scouts from the Andechs Rothenau tribe, Bad Staffelstein, have brought the light to the Motherhouse.
We are happy to welcome it in our midst.
This year in particular, the light, which comes from a country where the hope for peace is politically before new paths, gains symbolic power.
The motto of this year's Peace Light Campaign is: "Peace begins with you".
Peace - on a large or small scale - can only succeed if all people join in/participate. Before taking the step of participation, there is the question of one's own possibilities, resources and abilities, or simply the questions: Who am I? What do I want to contribute? What does it look like in me?
Working for peace is a decision that we can only make for ourselves personally, because each individual knows him/herself best. With every decision for peace, the chance for peace grows.
A quote from the Dalai Lama is "Peace begins within us".
In order for peace in ME and peace in YOU to become peace in US, we need the courage to set out on the path. We have to find this courage within ourselves. The first step on this path must be taken by each one of us on our own initiative. That is why peace begins with a decision and with every single person.
Peace also begins with you!
The Light of Peace from Bethlehem is not a magical sign that could conjure up peace. Rather, as a symbol, it reminds us of our duty to work for peace. Just as the light is passed from hand to hand, we must also let peace grow from person to person. Just as we carefully guard the small flame, we must also guard peace.
